Things to Do

Wineries & Distilled Spirits

Family wineries are an integral part of the delightful patchwork of farmland in Rappahannock. Clinging to our stony hillsides, the vineyards of Rappahannock produce a generous crop of native American, hybrid, and vinifera grapes with each harvest. Each winery's tasting room offers sampling opportunities, light foods, wines and wine accessories for sale. Rappahannock County also is home to Wasmund's single malt whiskey at the Copper Fox Distillery in Sperryville, where scheduled tours and presentations offer insight into the distilling process.

Festa Rappahannock
Five wineries of Rappahannock County celebrate the launch of the Artisanal Wineries of Rappahannock wine trail at Festa Rappahannock. The afternoon features Viognier, Cabernet Franc wines and "slow" local foods including beef provided by Briarmead Farms, and chicken raised locally by Beatrix Farms, both of the Northern Valley Pastoral Guild, along with local produce, all creatively prepared by the chefs of The Marriott Ranch. Live musical entertainment will round out the day. Proceeds will benefit Hospice of the Rapidan. Wineries include Chester Gap Cellars, Gadino Cellars, Narmada Winery, Sharp Rock Vineyards, and Rappahannock Cellars. Virginia’s newest and most unique wine trail is a collection of artisanal, family-run wineries, just a short, scenic drive from one another in Rappahannock County, who have joined together to offer a premium wine tasting experience that is rooted in small lot, handcrafted wines. This is a boutique, casual wine-tasting trail, in sharp contrast to the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia.
