Things to Do

Hunt Country

Rappahannock County is home to Thornton Hill Hunt, located on Thornton Hill Farm in southern Rappahannock County. It's the only hunt headquartered in the county. The farm has been the site of steeplechase races for more than 50 years; races are held in mid-September. The hounds hunt from September through March and can be seen throughout the county on one of 25 fixtures.

The Rappahannock Hunt, whose hunting territory comprises land in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Madison counties, also sponsors spring pair races. The Old Dominion Hounds sponsors two races in the spring, both at Ben Venue Farm in Rappahannock County.
